Goodbye To Wedding Traditions

Goodbye To Wedding Traditions

It was only once our wedding had come and gone that I realised how important it is for the bride & groom to be "themselves", to not bend and break just to do what's expected - "the norm" - for a modern wedding.
I wore a pretty ugly pair of tan wedges from my uni days under my dress because I figured no one would see.

Peppe bought a pair of chinos because he knew he would barely wear light coloured suit trousers (and I insisted navy wouldn't fit the colour scheme) I wore no jewellery apart from a pair of earrings my Ah Ma (grandmother) dedicated for me when I was born, and her old ring, which is now my wedding ring.
Peppe doesn't have a ring because he's not into jewellery and didn't want to go searching for something just because it's what grooms are supposed to have. The money we would have spent on these things helped us stretch our budget for a two-day wedding in the UK to a two-week wedding stay in France. It was our own sort of magical and, for us at least, no jewellery or shoes could compare. We also had no alcohol or meat at our wedding… we probably saved more there to be fair!

Some people love beautiful wedding rings and shoes. This isn't looking down on those things. It's just not us. And our wedding should be ours; yours should be yours.
